Size isn't everything........


When it comes to writing a blog :)

I love to read, testimony to this is the number of books stashed under the bed as I don't have shelf space for them all. I actually keep a book list on Google docs so that when I buy books I know what I have already read. Sometimes I reread books as with my memory I usually forget most of what I read anyway, but for that brief moment of time on the white reading chair or when I am on a plane I devour books. However sometimes blogs just don't do it for me, maybe it is because I like holding a book, thumbing through the pages, just that intrinsic feel of paper and print makes it special. No Kindle for me.

Ok, back to the subject of size. I was going to read a blog today but at the top it said 'Reading Time  - 12 mins', now I know this is helpful to some but to me that just meant reading time = 0 mins as I x'ed out of the blog. Same goes for long winded emails and wordy presentations, I zone out, look for the interesting bits and if I cannot find them I usually fall asleep. Ok, so not very professional of me but at the same time the longest thing I ever write are these blogs and I believe the greatest thing anyone can use in writing are bullet points, just saves so much time. So out of respect to bullet points here is the rest of this first post in a long time in said methodology:

·         I would have made a crap lawyer - not enough bullet points in legal documents
·         Just realized I have not much to add to this post
·         Wondering if the beer is cold yet
·         Realized I need to go get some beer
·         Do the kids want Pizza tonight?
·         Wish it was warmer (not the beer though)
·         Realize y'all think that all I think about is cold beer (not true)
·         Well not that true
·         Thinking that with some things size is important - such as pizza
·         What the hell am I going to watch when the NFL season is over and all they have is freaking bouncy ball on TV, really wish there was more rugby coverage in the US
·         Does anyone actually read this far? Do I actually care?


So in conclusion some random thoughts to end this

·         Going to post more in 2015
·         Going to have a great 2015 (hope y'all are too)
·         Work Hard
·         Play Hard
·         Earn your inspiration
·         Crap, I forgot to use the word pontificate in this post, oh well, maybe next time

Do not go gentle into that good night

Ok, so Dylan Thomas was not exactly writing about what I am about to pontificate on but it is germane to this week's post. Back in early 1980’s Poppa Jeff turned 40 and had a birthday party with a friend of his, Alan Wilson, who happened to have his birthday on the same day. Alan was disappointed that his name wasn’t Brian, as he really just wanted to lie in bed, however he came to the party anyway. I remember being downstairs watching a movie about some Austrian painter with a stupid mustache topping himself (he seemed like quite a douchebag) whilst the ‘adults’ partied upstairs. The standard attire seemed to be suits or sports coats, ties, dress shirt etc and the men dressed the same :) A belly dancer turned up at one point, there was the obligatory gift of a walking cane and the boisterous singing of 'Life begins at 40' by Dave & the Dynamos echoed through the house. Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you

You know, it’s funny where I get inspiration to write this drivel. I’ll tell you this much for free, writing this crap is not easy, but my adoring fan (thanks Mum) is ever demanding for new and improved posts (usually with less swearing) so I have to keep my fan/Mum happy. Also The English Major doesn’t do fuck all on Poets Day anyway so the 5 minutes he spends checking my posts are the highlight of his day. Anyway, back to this week’s inspiration, a Crowded House (famous Kiwi band, not from the prison colony even though they might claim them – and Phar Lap) song. Why is it this week’s inspiration? I have no idea. It just popped into my head the other day during an opium induced haze and stayed there.
